A Place To Learn

Welcome to my first blog post! My name is Joy. I live in a small city in Ontario, and run a very small dog-walking business. This means that I spend my days with the canine (and, occasionally, feline) family members of others. And that I see an exceptional amount of poop.

The goal for this blog is pretty simple: I'm just looking for a place to write about the experiences I've had in this (slightly unconventional) line of work. I have endless stories to tell - some hilarious and some heartbreaking, that I think are worth sharing with others.

I'd also like to use this as a tool for myself. I want to be able to work through problems and questions that come up, or that have come up in the past. I want this blog to be a personal journal, a logbook of research and information I gather from other sources and a place where those two things can come together to form ideas that I can use, in real time, with real clients.

I also want to have fun with it all. I've been a dog walker for two years because I love it. I love to spend my time with animals, and to be able to help their humans. The job is less of a job and more of a lifestyle, and one what gives me flexibility to learn and grow. My days are full of surprises, twists and turns that I never expect but that tend to make me a better human being. A dog walker's life is interesting and smelly and requires a sense of humour. And good walking shoes.

I'm a huge fan of gathering knowledge and combining that knowledge with experience, in an effort to create the best version of yourself that you can. I want to be as helpful to my animal (and human!) clients as possible, and I want to take others along with me on this journey. If only one other person ever reads what I write here, that will be a success.

Talk soon!
